OUR STORY
Why the name “WHYNOTHEELS”?
What makes our heels different?
Our original name was actually “Why heels, Why not!”
It was inspired by something Yanis Marshall said in a 2014 interview on Britain's Got Talent: "I get this question a lot, which is why do I dance in heels? And the answer is always, why not!"
Back in 2013, we first discovered Yanis through YouTube, and by 2016 we started dancing ourselves. In those early days, everyone wore regular fashion heels to class—sandals, booties, tall boots, you name it. Most of them had stiff, unforgiving soles. After class, the balls of our feet would be in serious pain.
Then, in late 2019, we were thrilled to find a factory that specialized in Western-style dance heels. At first, we just helped students and instructors place custom orders. We saw how in the U.S., everyone at the studio had proper dance heels. Meanwhile in Taiwan, we once had a student whose heel literally snapped mid-class.
By 2020, the idea of creating our own line of dance heels became clear—not only to lower the cost, but to make shoes we truly believed in.
Our mission is to bring you dance heels that are comfortable, beautiful, and built to last—so we can keep dancing in heels, and keep feeling beautiful, together.
